Soča valley cheese tastings

Tolminc cheese is a true symbol of the Soča Valley's rich dairy tradition

You will definitely enjoy the cheese tasting in the Soča Valley! The valley is as a hidden gem in the world of cheese, nestled in a region known for its rich culinary heritage. This area, with its lush pastures and traditional farming practices, produces some of the finest cheeses in Slovenia. Local cheesemakers continue age-old techniques, creating unique flavors like Tolminc, the valley's most famous cheese.

Tolminc cheese is a true symbol of the Soča Valley's rich dairy tradition and proudly holds the Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) certificate. This centuries-old cheese is crafted using traditional methods passed down through generations in the mountainous regions of Tolmin. Made from raw cow's milk of pasture-grazed cows, Tolminc has a unique, rich flavor profile—mild and slightly nutty when young, developing a robust and aromatic taste as it ages. Its PDO status ensures that every wheel of Tolminc is made to the highest standards, preserving its authenticity and cultural heritage.

Alongside other specialties are also sheep and goat cheeses. The valley’s diverse landscape also gives rise to unique cheeses infused with wild herbs (wild oregano) making the Soča Valley a must-visit destination for cheese lovers.
