The village has 700-year-old tradition of cheese-making, with the famous Tolminc cheese being a local specialty. Would you like to taste it? Join us at a full day trip with our local guide, where you will have opportunity to meet also other local people. Did you know that the road to this village is so daunting that even some locals avoid driving there?

Hiking to the mountain village offers you oportunity to explore also the secrets of the beautiful river Tolminka Valley with views you'll remember forever. You will like pasture mountains, and the idyllic setting surrounded by the peaks of the Julian Alps in of Slovenia’s only national park. You will hear historical stories, some of them unique in Slovenia. Some things will remain secret until you go with us. Your journey begins with a walk across the famous Tolmin Gorges and end with a nice lunch at an organic farm, where you'll savour locally produced food and learn about sustainable farming practices by the warm, welcoming inhabitants.

Several notable figures already have visited the village. Among them were the American delegation, including the CIA director, drawn by interest in organic farming, and years ago, the King and Queen of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf and Silvia, who visited at the invitation of Triglav National Park.

Your adventure begins with a crossing of the stunning Tolmin Gorge, followed by a 6 km hike to the village and an additional 2 km exploring its famous spots.
  • As you trek through this picturesque landscape, you'll learn about the unique ecosystem of Triglav National Park in Julian Alps and the village's rich, centuries-old cheese-making tradition.
  • At a local eco farm, you'll have the opportunity to taste the renowned Tolminc cheese and enjoy a meal prepared entirely from local ingredients. You will have the opportunity to discover the principles of organic farming and taste delicious food.

LOCATION

The main location is the village of Čadrg and its surroundings. The path to the village is very special and crosses the Tolminska korita. We will spend more time at one of the ecological farms in the village.

USEFUL INFORMATION

Guiding language is English, Slovene or Croatian.

The trail varies from comfortable, even & wide paths to rocky and (occasionally) steep trail. The trail is partly in the shade of a forest. However, be prepared for sun exposure too.

• Activity level: not easy, moderate walking. At the beginning short, but steep demanding walking.
• Distance: 7 km + 2 km in one direction
• Duration: 7 - 8 hours.
• Altitude difference from starting point to the village is 500 m.

We recommend bringing some of your preferred hiking snacks with you for the beginning of the hike.
At the farm you can buy Tolminc cheese and other local products such as honey and non-alcohol and alcohol local drinks to take with you - paying possibilities also with credit card.
