The hike takes you through the Tolminka Valley, along alpine pastures and into the heart of Triglav National Park. The setting is unforgettable—surrounded by the Julian Alps and echoing with unique stories from Slovenia’s history. The road is so dramatic, some locals prefer not to drive it—but that just makes the destination even more special.

This hiking to the mountain village is a captivating hiking tour to the remote village of Čadrg, guided by a licensed local expert deeply familiar with the region and its history. Your adventure begins with a crossing of the stunning Tolmin Gorge, followed by a 6 km hike to the village and an additional 2 km exploring its famous spots.
In case organized transport to the village is arranged instead of the hike — which requires prior agreement via email at info@socavalley.com — the walking time is shortened by 2 hours.
As you trek through this picturesque landscape, you'll learn about the unique ecosystem of Triglav National Park in Julian Alps and the village's rich, centuries-old cheese-making tradition.
At a local eco farm, you'll have the opportunity to taste the renowned Tolminc cheese and enjoy a meal prepared entirely from local ingredients. You will have the opportunity to discover the principles of organic farming and taste delicious food.

LOCATION

The main location is the village of Čadrg and its surroundings. The path to the village is very special and crosses the Tolmin Gorge. We will spend more time at one of the ecological farms in the village.

USEFUL INFORMATION

Guiding language is English, Slovene or Croatian.

The trail varies from comfortable, even & wide paths to rocky and (occasionally) steep trail. The trail is partly in the shade of a forest. However, be prepared for sun exposure too.

• Activity level: not easy, moderate walking. At the beginning short, but steep demanding walking.
• Distance: 7 km + 2 km in one direction
• Duration: 7 - 8 hours.
• Altitude difference from starting point to the village is 500 m.

We recommend bringing some of your preferred hiking snacks with you for the beginning of the hike.
At the farm you can buy Tolminc cheese and other local products such as honey and non-alcohol and alcohol local drinks to take with you - paying possibilities also with credit card.
